My main problem is having 2 and 4 yr olds and a wife in school... Time is hard to come by.. So when I do work on the car its usually after the kids are in bed.. And by then I would usually just like to watch some CSI and go to bed.

Cool, test driving for Roush, that's got to be one of the best jobs ever!
It's such hard work. 325 miles a day, almost two hours of that is through canyon roads. And the cars! Oh, they're horrible!

Seriously, though, it's really a lot of fun, but I only get to do short projects. They've got different divisions. I'm working for essentially their engineering division. When they have cars they need miles on to test durability or even marketability, that's where us test drivers come in. I've only just completed a one week job and have another early next month. I don't think I'm allowed to talk in detail about the cars, but I can still be vague and say that the ones we're driving are European--most are Italian and cost six figures. I've become a fiend with paddle shifters, but I still think they're weird!

And as for motivation you guys... Well, you must be doing something wrong. Working on the car should be fun. (Even when it isn't.) Add a little music maybe, how about some liquid refreshment? Have a friend over for conversation (and an extra hand every now and then)? Invite your cat or dog...or tortoise (in my case) to have someone to talk to. They don't care if you cuss and sometimes they provide entertainment as well.

When I'm by myself and nothing's going right, but I gotta get the job done, I think about the very first time I tore down my engine...the sound it made when I started it up that very first time. I walk down memory lane and think about all the good times--and how the bad times have made for such great stories even though they weren't funny--at all--at the time.

And when all else fails, I take a break and surf around here. It's car related, so it's research, right? I'm not really procrastinating? I'm learning! And eventually, the enthusiasm spreads and I'm back out in the garage.

Take time out for your hobbies, family, and enjoyment. Time passed can never be made up.....

I have not been on here much the last couple of days, I found that my Uncle that I am very close to, hadpassed away early Monday morning. His project (and my project) vehicle that as he would say that "I want this done before I die", remains undone.

I see his 72 Ford F-150 everytime I go to work, and everytime I step out of the office, as a reminder of "things undone".

This truck was passed to my uncle when his father passed away in 1984, I will finish this project, God willing, and present it to his son who does not have the means to finish it himself.

Damn.

I'm retired, have been since I was 50. I got fed up with the BS of senior management (I was a middle management type) so I found a new thing to do - Mustangs. As I'm about 40 miles from Santa Cruz, I make an occasional run over the hill from Silicon Valley and fish. When that gets boring, I head up to a few secret spots in the Sierras and - fish. When I get bored again, I got a couple of Mustangs in the garage to relax around and 'tinker'. I hate it when my 'hobbies' interfere with my 'hobbies'.

He would have been 60 on July 9th. He was working mostly for the benifit of his 9 grandchildren.

James,
It looks like I was typing my post during the time your post was entered and didn't have the opportunity to read it. I prefer to live life the best I can for my own goals - apparently about the same as your uncle.
