Default alternators

i searched around old threads but am a little confused, what amperage alternator should i buy. i have an after market radio, a alarm system, 3 aftermarket speakers, and i got 2 speakers to mount behind the rear seat for a little more umph, not SUBS in a box that take up my trunk.

also painless whole car wiring with new fusebox, how big of an alternator should i get, my current one looks stock and groady, i think its time for a change

Get highest amperage you can afford. Those 180 amp alts are expensive. Go with internal regulator too. You may not have a choice on that one.

Just make sure you aren't running that high amperage equipment through 40 year old wires.

Total up tha additional wattage from the aftermarket items that you have installed and plan to install and divide by 12. Thats tha additional loadto the stock alternator. One wires are a much better way to go (actually they are two, one to your field, and a bigger one to your battery or starter solenoid). James can you PM me something on the "3G" alternator. I am about to start another build (A hot 65 fastback).

A 1-wire 100Amp alternator will be more than enough, and the 1-wire really cleans up your engine bay.
