3" pipes will definately make it louder, but are WAY too big for that 289. 2.5" pipes are capable of supporting over 400hp from a 289/302 without being restrictive. 3" on a small engine will just kill off power pretty much everywhere except for very high rpm. I wouldn't put 3" on a 289/302 unless you were spraying a fair bit of nitrous or were blown

Sorry - I don't have any video of my car.
It's interesting the the sound of a classic Mustang is an extremely important element to it's overall enjoyment.
I researched exhaust sounds for three months before going with Borla. It is exactly what I was looking for. No hollow rasp, no overbarring boom-boom-boom, no overcompensation, no interiorresonance
Borlas are a serious system.Listen carefully to the 2007 Mustang GT's. The are quite but have adeepbass undertone. That's the best way I can describe my sound. It doesn't wake up the neighborhood but when you get on it, the sensory imput is a rush!!
I bought these without ever hearing them on a vinatge Musatng. It was a leap of faith.

pity...i'd like to hear it especially with all you have completed now. i listened to their website clip...its so hard to tell on a pc what any of the systems really sound like. my advice to npg3 is listen to cars on the road. go to a mustang show and listen to cars with similar engine combos to yours.
btw, the original shelby's were at most 2 1/4. the 350R models may have had 3".
in my experience, smaller pipes are better for exhaust note. the gas velocity is increased giving a cleaner crisper sound...more v8 snarl, less deep boom...depending on muffler choice of course. you just dont need 2.5 or up from a 289/302 unless you are running silly numbers (power and revs).
