Default RE: Carburator Question

Does this brown wire going to the fan have power during starting? Soaring, you mention advice on electronic ignition on a post. Can you tell how I should wire the elctronic ignition I'd appreciate it.

There is no power during starting and you don't want any. The choke is closed as it should be to aid in starting, and as the resistance wire in the electric choke heats up (it heats up faster at 12V than at less), the choke opens, or it will when you trip the fast idle cam and all the other little stops.
If I remember correctly (text messaging is not for adults), Glen probably recomended the Pertronix I system, and I do too. I got one in my 66 hardtop daily driver back-up car and a whole bunch of little nagging problems went away.

Jim i did the installation like you said. Carb is installed, it gets power from the dirty brown wire.
When i start her up now the engine runs like crazy. How do i slow it down ?

If the choke is still engaged after five minutes of being heated, you need to figure out why it hasn't tripped back to normal idle speed (it could be jammed), adjust its high idle speed (a normal adjustment), or see if theregular butterflys are somehow jammed open. All this can be done without the engine running, one of the positive features of an electric choke.

Here is a pretty good article from Fort Muscle on how to hookup the pertronix module. The directions that come with the unit are pretty good too. The difference in my method and the way the article and the directions says to hook it up, is that if a pertronix unit fails, it fails because the voltage to it has somehow dropped below 7.5 volts which is the minimum for it to opertate. I run a wire from the switchable wire on the ignition switch (If I remember correctly, it is the black wire with blue stripe) and bypass the pink resistor wire so that I am getting a constant 12 volts at the coil.

I only let her run for about 30 secs since she made such a noise. It's a brand new carb so a jamming-problem is highly unlikely. The regular butterflys are closed. I'm thinking this might have something to do with the springs that are hooked to the accelerator linkage. I didnt know how to hook them up so this might be wrong and i cant find a picture of it anywhere on how to link those.

Not sure how you slow that carb down. Look on the linkage to see if there is an idle adjustment screw like is on my Motorcraft. But, like Jim has said, that carb may idle faster when the choke is on.

Mine does the same at start up. If you give it a small stab on the gas pedal, it will settle a little. It will still idle high though until it is warmed up, or you step on the pedal hard.

To adjust the idle speed on the carb, there is a screw on the lower right side of the carb. If you watch the video from the link I posted earlier, it will show it to you and show you how to adjust it.

Not sure which section it is in, but is under installation 1,2,3, or 4.

These vids are straight from the dvd.
Here is the link again, and look in the section that says "Fast Idle Adjustment".
