+1 on the temp gun idea.
Glad to hear you had it rodded properly...plenty of shops would just rinse it and charge a fortune for that service which achieves very little.

CVR maybe...I hate auto elecs...I'd start by making sure all the earths weretight (and they may be all to the same place)...please post what you find as others may also value that information.

FWIW, i run a filter in the top hose and a "low water level" sender in the radiator top tank. The sender and temp gaugework in tandem...lose fluid, the buzzer and light go off. It tells me to watch the temp gauge until convenient to check properly. If you blow a hose, often the temp gauge has nothing to register so its too late by time you know whats going on. I find it a really useful little insurance policy.

I bought a temp gun to check my gauge and overheating problem. The one I got was from Summit SUM-G1058. It seems pretty acuarate and confirmed that when my '69 runs at 180 something normally and gets up to 215-220 when in traffic. The gauge in the dash gets to about 7 o'clock when it is 215-220 and is just barely in normal when running at 180.

+1 on the temp gun so you can check your gauge.

well i totally forgot that i had an extra dash/gauge cluster so i just took that CVR and replaced my with it and i took some sand paper to the copper and snugged up all the bolts and all my gauges are working good now but i still have the heating problem,

i was reading on a different thread that if ur vacume advance isnt working properly that could cause it to run hotter and well as if ur timing is advanced, what kinda test could you do in order to find out if your vacume advance is working like it should????
