Default Light Recommendations

My taillights, headlights, blinkers (both front and back) are really dim. Almost been creamed a few times by drivers who don't know I am braking or changing lanes. Any recommendations on lights to use to pump things up?

Headlights - Install a headlight relay system http://midnightdsigns.com/james/headlights.htm

Taillights and turn lamps - 1) disassemble and clean lamp housings. 2) polish with steel wool, or even paint with a high temp chrome paint. 3) Replace bulbs and lens with new.

Replace headlamp switch.

Inspect, clean and retighen all wire harness grounds tied to lamp harnesses.

I would check the grounding strap from the engine to the frame and clean all connections. The fact that all your light circuits are dim points to a system current handling problem.

I saw some replacement LED tail lights in a catalog and thought that was a good idea. Haven't gotten that far on mine yet, but when I do I think it's an intriging idea and will seriously consider it.

I have wondered this myself. It seems all classic cars have dim lights, tail, head interior, etc...I guess cause they are classics. Does anyone upgrade to brighter bulbs or anything? I thought about installing the indigo guages so I could see them better at night.

Before you start thinking about LED, make sure your electrical system is checked. If your stock stuff is not performing properly, new fangled LED, etc are not going to do to well either.

+1 on the procedures mentioned above. You can also get brighter tail light bulbs. I think the 1157 bulb is available as 2057, which is brighter (no mods req'd). Have your alternator tested and voltage regulator. Clean ground and connections, etc.

Good luck.
