Quick Wiring Question
Yeah, the cigarette lighter is always hot, but so is that big yellow wire that is attached to your ignition key. Make sure your stereo doesn't draw much amps. That old 40+ year old wiring won't carry much. Tell us how much amps that radio/stereo is rated at before you go any further. You may want to plug into the + side of the solenoid with an inline fuse just to be safe.
Jim thanks for the heads up.
I usually solder my connections, I'm just using splice as terminology for tapping into a wire.
I was just checking on the wiring situation. I've installed a lot of stereos. I might even just go ahead and install all the audio junk I have lying aroundin the mustang. It would be enough for a pretty nice stereo!

Correct my last, the stud size is number 8 on the back of the lighter. If you put a number 8 stud size ring lug on the radio memory power lead, remove the push-on connector from the back of the lighter, put the memory power ring lug on the stud and push the lighter lead back on, you will have acheived the maximum K.I.S.S. scenerio - simplicity. You will have to bend the ring lug slightly to clear the lighter housing.
