Default gap between wheel and caliper

I put together my granada disc brakes tonight. Why? Who knows, but I couldn't sleep It's 1:37am, and I have to wake up in a few hours for work[&:]

I put the caliper in, and put it all on the new wheel. There is a gap of about 1/5" (.2") between the wheel and the caliper. Is this too close, or do you think I need to grind down on the caliper?

I had heard some trick about wrapping the caliper 10x with masking tape, but not sure if that is really a good test, or just a guess

I was trying to locate the response from SSBC when I put on my front discs. I believe it was a min. of .25" (qrtr in.) between the outside face of the caliper and the inside face of the wheel. I too had to grind off material to add clearance. The good news, there's plenty of material so you shouldn't need to worry about hitting a passage, and a good coat of caliper paint when your donemakes the calipers look brand new.Stay away from wheel spacers!

dang...I don't know my exact width, unless I use a benchmark. I guess I could stick something down in there that fits, and measure it. I hope it's .25. Thanks,

If the wheel bolts up over the caliper, spins freely and doesn't touch... don't worry about it.

The Irish guy, Plenty O' Room says you're all set.

I just went through this with a new set of styled steel wheels, and discs up front. Its pretty much as easy as everyone is saying...... Just grind down a bit of the caliper, also make sure the wheel itself doesnt have an ugly weld sticking out, i had a few welds on the wheels that needed a light grind.
