Transmission question
I have a 1967 with a 302 engine and a 3-speed manual. I was wonderind if i could put a 5 speed in it? like out of a fox body mustang. It seems like it would work if you have two 5.0s one carburated and one fuel injected. Would that swap over? Please help me. or a suggestion on where i could find this answer? Thank You.
It is almost a strait forward swap. I would use a T5 bellhousing, clutch, and pressure plate, and then you either need swap out the clutch fork for a push type to use with your original linkage, or switch to a cable or hydraulic clutch. I have a Zspec T5 in my car and I love it!!!
All world class t5s are the same on the outside, so in theory would fit in your car. What makes them different is whats inside. A Z spec is the strongest T5 that ever came stock in a car. Normaly A z spec T5 is good up to about 330 HP, but I also had the rebuilder replace a few other things in my trans and he figures it would take about 400 HP. There are other vershons of the world class T5 trans and the weekest is good up to 260 HP. This is were I got my T5 http://www.rosehillperformanceparts.com/ he is a good guy who knows his stuff, just tell him DazeCars sent you and he will take good care of you.
Also take a look at this articel http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/t5swap/
It will give you the basics of what you are wanting to do.
