Default tachometer

I have a 66 289 2v with automatic trans, Pertronix I ignition. I was thinking about purchasing a aftermarkettach [ too cheap for a ralley pack]. What type will work with this setup? I only ask for setting idle etc. It would be column mounted, not in the dash. Thanks

Just about every tach I've seen allows for hookup for either a voltage trigger or a current trigger. In other words, probably any aftermarket tach you buy will work with your car AFAIK.

All of the aftermarket tachs I have seen are

Green wire = (-) neg. coil
Red wire = hot
Black wire = ground
Blue wire = lights

Unless of course you are running a factory Ford tach and then that is a whole different
animal all together

The little SunPro Column mount tach like below can be had for cheap at places like Autozone.

OK, got the tach, mounted on the steering col etc. This is my plan for hooking up the wires. Black to the ground from the engine to the fire wall, green to the neg side of the coil, white to my instrument lights. Red to? I have a Pertronix 1 hooked up after the pink resitor wire. Can I hook up to this wire, or will it interfere with the Pertronix operation? If so, where is another point to attach the red wire ?
