door hinge repair question
I would recomend you buy a good used one and installed it. I did, then tried to fix the not-so-good one I took off using the parts included in a rebuild kit. Drive out the old hinge pin with a driftand a very large hammer on a very large bench vice. A good pair of vice grips helps too. Re-assemble hinge. For the spring, thread two pieces of 20awg safety wire thru the center of the spring a couple of times and compress the spring in a vice. Pull the safety wires, taking up any slack and twist the ends securelyto retain the spring as compressed. Putthe lower hinge in a vice, install the springand clip the safety wires.

I just bought the repair parts. It's hard to find a good set of hinges because their usually off of the car and there's no way to test them- or is there??? mustang monthly mentioned it best to re-use the old springs- would you concur?
Use the old 'open and close the door' test. There are four thing that can go wrong on a hinge: too rusty - toss it; bad pivot pin - replace it; bad roller and pin - replace them; bad spring - replace it. I got a package of 5 Ford replacement springs (NPD I think) and used all (I've got four cars). I also bead blasted the best of the used springs (some were distorted), phosphated them and have installed two in the last few years. Aftermarket springs may be junk, I don't know.
