harmonic balancer

Default harmonic balancer

2 things... what is the torque suspose to be for the harmonic balancer on my 69 302.... and also do you have any tricks on keeping it from spinning... one source told me 90 pounds of torque but i can not get it there for the life of me... any ideas

In my 66 Shop Manual, the torque is listed from 70 to 90 foot pounds for both 289 and 390. I would assume the same for a 302.With plugs in the heads, you should be able to get at least 70 ft-lbs.
Buy a Shop Manual.

if the car is a stick put it in gear. if the car is an auto you can rig up some sort of leverage on the flywheel usually, or you can just give the ratchet a couple good smacks with a hammer (makeshift impact). i have never torqued a balancer, always just cranked em on down.

of course i dont even use a torque wrench on intakes, my brain makes clicky sounds when im at proper torque
