Default Rally Pac

What is with the Rally Pac? I saw one for sale for $200, and thought that seemed kinda low (they seem to go for a LOT at swap meets and stuff). It's all original, though the owner "says" it works. Who knows...

Did these come on GTs, or were they a seperate option, or what?

Ralley Pacs were a stand-alone option. Aftermarket versions are in the $430 to $480 range depending on the store. A factory original can be over $1000. Both of those types, original and late aftermarket types, wire into the resistance wire for the tach. Earlier aftermarket types needed a wire thru the firewall to the coil. That may be what you saw for $200. Keep in mind that there wer e two styles, low and high profile, and both had three versions, 6 cylinder, 6,000 rpm V8 and 8,000 rpm V8.

If it is completely original, you can almost guarantee that the clock does not work. I had one rebuilt by a place in the San Fernando Valleyand it lasted a few years before pooping out again. Jim rebuilt his himself and has better results. Ultimately, I swapped in a quarts movement clock. Your biggest obstacle is your engine. The original six cylinder RPs are hard to come by though I do think they make a repop RP that will work.

FWIW, I just bought a repop '65 RP, 'Mustang' logo, 6K rpm tach (I don't have a HiPo) off of Ebay from Sac Mustang for $407, delivered, including tax.

[edit] I once found a '66 RP with 8k rpm tach (hi-po) at a garage sale for $25. The chances of that happening again are slim though.

Well...a little updating...

Looked at some pics, and it goes from 0 - 6000 rpm. It appears to be a low profile. In the middle, it says "RALLY PAC". The components look kinda "old" (like they should) but not broken or anything.

It's got a bunch of wires coming out of it - looks stock, but not sure.

If it says rally pac on the center, then that's not a low profile set up (it's for 64-65 only). 66's came with the low profile (look on ebay).

FWIW, the '65 RP will work on a '66 and you'll still be able to see your gauges just fine. Only somebody who knows Mustangs would know otherwise.
