Tail/Brake Lights reversed
I have a '65 Mustang and when I turn on the headlight switch, my tailights are bright instead of low. Then, when I push the brake pedal, the actual tail lights illuminate. My tail lights are reversed.. I have replaced the complete tail lights with new buckets and lights. It has a good ground contact. I do not know how to diagnose this problem or how to correct it. Any advice?
I need some help from your end.
Are there splices in the wiring in the trunk near the taillight housings?
How bright is the license plate light?
Are the taillight bulbs in backwards?

Ok, well that sort of worked. What I did was reversed the wires on the drivers side tail light first. It worked as normal; tail light, brake light, blinker. Then, I reversed the wires on the passenger side tail light. Everything works like it should except for the drivers side brake light. The brake light comes on only when the left hand blinker is on and the brakes are depressed. Other than that, the blinkers work properly and the passenger side lights are functioning as normal. I am sort of stumped. Something else must be throwing this off; could it be the brake switch itself?
kinda went thru same thing,,found when comparing the tail lite sockets the my paasenger side rear socket contacts had shifted about 30 degrees,, giving me a supernova look when I used the lights other wise brake/turn signals seemed to be ok,,,might help to check the blub contact locations between the 2 buckets

The next phase of 'the cure' may be in the connector at the base of your steering column or in the turn signal switch under the steering wheel.
Here is the exterior wiring diagram for a 65 Mustang. Check the wire colors -

From the wiring harness coming from up front, make sure you have the wires attached like this, The first color is the wiring harness, and the second is to the bucket.
