engine combo question 289

Default engine combo question 289

well thanks for your help on the other questions, now i have another one

i found a 289 block would a

edelbrock 2091

and a Holley Model 4160 Adjustable Float Carburetors
Carburetor, Model 4160, 750 cfm, Square Bore, 4-Barrel

would this work. how much hp could i expect from a 289 with this setup. also is there anything better in this price range i should look at.

A 750 carb is WAY too big for 289. That top end kit is solid, but you need to be looking at a ~600CFM carb, not a 750.

Those 60cc heads are going to lower your compression ratio. 58's would be better, but you'll still need pistons to keep or better the stock 289's comp ratio.

Those heads, cam and intake will also let way more air into the cylinder, so even if the CR is down a bit the actual compression and combustion pressure will be higher. Also try to keep the CR down if you plan on a blower later on down the road

Don't want to disagree with you again, but Valve overlap will actually reduce the dynamic compression ratio. ie the main reason you can run much higher comp on big cams. As Mr Classic says, you will want higher compression pistons to raise that ratio.

True, but it's still going to be more of a performance gain due to flow than he'll lose from compression.
