On a 6cyl car which one has a reverse thread, the outer or inner?

My outer had the reverse threads, but its not a 6er...

Inners are 316R,R being right hand (normal) thread. Outers are 316L, left hand threads. The inners and outers on 6 cyl 65-66 6 cylinder are COMMONLY reversed. V8 have opposite configuration (don't ask why!).

Sounds like I got a couple misboxed inner tie rod ends. I figured something was wrong when both iners and outers were reverse thread. Hopefully I get the replacement ones by the week end and get this disc brake swap done.
