302 sound?
Yeah I'm with you on that. My 289 is more than enough to turn heads and set off car alarms when I rev it but is quiet enough to be comfortable to drive it all day and not disturb the peace. Thats a stock engine except for a mild cam and stock dual exhaust.
Yeah 390bigblock, when I get some money I plan to put my original drivetrain to the side and store it because it only has 108K original miles on it. After than if I'm really rich go and grab a new boss block and punch it out to a 347, if not get a junkyard 302 and punch it out. Small blocks FTW!
I'm not the biggest believer in having a numbers matching car, I didn't try to find one but this car was far too good of a deal to pass up, very good price. After getting it and going through the appraisal paperwork and everything I found out that it was an all original car. I consider it a bonus. I did say I don't believe in numbers matching but I also believe if I can avoid destroying an original piece of history I will preserve it if I can.
man when i saw the add for my car and saw it was a 390 i was praying it was a matching numbers car....i dont car if its matching numbers if its a 289 or 302 or something but i thought it would be pretty cool to have a matching numbers 390 coupe...even though it wasnt i couldnt pass up a 390bb, with a brand new b$m tranns
Oh I agree with you, I would like to have a 390 because it has that character of being the first mustang big block, I like the 289 because its the original performance motor in a mustang, and anybody who wants to say 260 no that wasn't performance. Now that I think about it I have a friend with a 390 in his basement, I might punch it out (I'm pretty sure it needs a rebuild) and put that in there if I decide to swap engines down the road.
if anybody puts a 390 in or bb you cant put the engine emblems on the car, mine had the 390 on both side but when i sanded the body down to prime it i took them off and left them off so now when im driving all the tuner and non mustang fans dont know what im packing, its always fun when you to pull up to someone and have them ask what kind of engine do you have in there? and i always say "well all that matters is its bigger than yours"
I agree with that. But it is always fun to pull up to a ricer that can't break the 100cid mark and they see that 390 on the side, I don't think their mind can comprehend a motor that size, let alone my 289 (which isn't badged). The look on their face is priceless. I loved racing them in my old lifted 76 F150 and destroying them, and then popping the hood and showing them a real engine looks like, all 400cid of it.
