I highly doubt you will find a 428CJ, which is a rare engine, in a junkyard when it is really hard even to find most any mustang parts in a junkyard. Its hard to find mustangs in junkyards because of people like us and most scrapyards send mustangs and other like cars to speciality yards to be stripped and sold. An extremely good site to find junkyard parts is without spending a couple days jumping from yard to yard is http://car-part.com/ but it is a bit of a past time and fun to wander the yards, you never know what you will find.

If you need info on the FE block, 390, 427, 428, read this site and it will show you how to make a cheap big displacement big block. http://www.mustangandfords.com/techa...e_quick_facts/

I dont think the 428CJ is very common at all.
If you are seriously thinking about upgrading to a 428, you must be prepared to spend a lot of money. How is your tranny & your rear end. You will need a 9" and more upgrades I dont know about for that kind of power. I think the 428CJ can crank out 525hp, probably more. Can't you stroke that 390 up as far as 460? Take it up to 451 and you will be happy.

I think that should shake the ground.

Its dangerous to take a FE block past 428, the cylinder walls will become very thin. Even when rebuilding and boring a 428 .30 for the rebuild you will need sleeves. If you want to take it past 428 you will need a girdle and sleeves. If you read the article I just posted it should tell everything you want to know about the FE block.

The 385 engine is stock 460 cid, and can be taken out to 514cid. The only way I have ever seen it done properly without having to worry about it cracking every time you rev it is with the SVO crate motor. The 385 was always a truck engine and large car engine but can be adapted for the mustang.

Ooops my mistake Idollar, I lost sight of the goal, hint hint. With how this is going the car will shake itself apart onto the ground.

I don't understand whats wrong with a good old 302 if you already have one. People drag race those motors all the time and they are more than fast and loud. Its almost always the motor under the hood of the fox bodies destroying everybody else at the strip.

LOL,
Yeah, if I had a 302 and wasn't satisfied, I would build it up or stroke it. Why not? My 347 is loud as hell with hooker ceramic headers and flowmaster dual exhaust. I mean its not so loud that I am going to compete in dB contests or get pulled over for disturbing the peace... but its loud enough to rev the engine and turn heads all over the place. Its loud enough to occasionally set off car alarms. It's loud enough to **** off my neighbors!

Personally I think all this talk of dropping a 428 or whatthehellever in there just to shake the ground is crazy.
