302 sound?
Ok, the best way to build your 302 is a budget of $2000 for streetable DD driving is slap on some AFR 165cc, a COMP cam(call them up and tell them the rest of the setup and they will give you the best match), a nice 4bbl carb like a basic holley 4160, and an edelbrock performer intake. That will be a alot of power to keep on the ground with a light car like a 68. Then you want it really loud that is the exhausts job. Put on some halfway decent shorties like some hedmans, just go to summit or jegs to find a set and then run 2 1/2" tubes with some glasspack mufflers on. It will set off every car alarm for a distance and roast any rice burner you come across.
That combo should keep your gas mileage on the DD side of the spectrum. Right now I wouldn't even worry about upgrading your internals if you have a fresh rebuild on it. If you decide that isn't enough power for you, the next step should be upgrading your suspension and brakes to keep it on the ground safely. You won't be going anywhere fast if you are wrapped around a tree. But if you decide you have the budget and want more money you will already be set up for forced induction, turbo or super whatever you choose.

Who's "Mustang."?
ORIGINAL: Mustang.
see that's the thing, i don't want people to look at my car and say "oh wow, all he has is a 302", you know. is it a respectable engine that'll sound beefy and shake the ground to the point that people will hear me comin from down the road? sorry about all these questions but i am a newby.
i'm thinking abouttakeing my 302 down to the block and build it from there, does that sound good or not?

But, if it isreally you "Mustang." just keep using your old name. I certainly don't mean any offence, just listen to the advice you are given.
Cheers

Its sounds to me as if you want someone else to customize every detail ofyour car for you.
Research, research, research..... and more research. The internet is a never ending resource of knowledge ...Your car will be far more rewarding to you ifYOU make the decisions instead of having someone else build their taste into your ride.
IMO of course.

i've already done a bunch of research and i have decided on a T-5, but i don't know if it will hold up to my soon to be built 302. so i was wondering if you knew of anyplace that i can find onemodified a little so that it will stand up to my 302?
