New '68 Mustang - transport companies...
Well I finally bought our first mustang! Its a '68 Coupe! Still needs some work but its 98% intacked. Drive shaft needs to be cut and fit and rad installed so its not drivable just yet. Will be completed over the winter and the wife gets it in the spring. I'll post some decent pics once it arrives. This leads me onto my first question...
Has anyone any personal experience in transporting companies? Need the car moved from CO to NJ. I've talked to DAS who quoted me 1195.00 and National Transport who quoted me 1145.00. Both were door to door service as the car is not running. This seems quite high to me since I called last month and was quoted pretty much the same from northern CA to NJ. I was thinking from Colorado it would be at least a few hundred bucks cheaper.
I was told of another company called Discount Auto Transport(.com) from a local guy here but it looks like they simply takes the order and contracts it out to other drivers/companies. Who knows how many times it loaded/unloaded/reloaded and then are they all insured, etc.
I'd like to get the car moved as soon as I can. I dont mind (well ok yeah I do) spending the cash to get it here but I'd like to save a buck where I can.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Those quotes sound reasonable? Thanks

I used American Auto Transporters located at http://www.shipcar.com/. Very pleased with them.

hehe well technically the engine could be started and 'running' however there is no drive shaft in the car so it isn't gonna run too far lol. I've called a few other places and all the prices have been 1145.00 through 1400.00. A few places I asked what it would cost if it was running and was quoted 20 to 50 bucks cheaper but thats it. I was told "its due to the year and model of the car".
What a crock [sm=boosign.gif] Guess I'll have to bite the bullet tomorrow and cough up the bucks. Its not much more then I had thought but still 300 to 400 extra. I'd have prefered to put that extra INTO the car.. disk brakes, A/C, new front seats, Ron Francis Wiring Harness, rebuild on the 390 in it, 9" rear end, etc. Oh well.. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Stay away from all internet transportation companies......
I have had to pick up the pieces too many times for people who have been ripped off by these folks,,,,,
Go with a company that does the work, at least if somthing goes wrong you will have something to fall back on....
You might get lucky with an internet company,,, then again you might get screwed... spend the $200.00 or $300.00 extra....

just used this- its unbeliveable- its like ebay for shiping. create a listing (its totally free) punch in zips and let the shippers duke it out- p.s. word of advice- if someone has low feedback ask them for their dot or ml number and check it on the us dot database to make shure its legit- www.uship.com

I've used Intercity before, great service and they really try to not have to move your car once it's in the truck. (www.intercitylines.com)
Right now I am using Richs Classic transport, they just picked up a 67 I just bought in Nebraska and bringing it home to california. They were highly recommened and once again, try not to ever move the car once it gets in the truck. I would have used Intercity again but it was an extra weeks wait. (www.richsclassictransport.com)
