Highbeam shuts off lights
hey guys i just noticed that everytime i push the highbeam switch on the floor when my lights are on it shuts off all my headlights and it wont work untill i fiddle with it. Im afriad to try it again or else i wont have lights.
any ideas? maybe its time for a new floor switch. i just replaced my dimmer switch.

Alright i found the name its called a headlamp dimmer switch. its the one on the floor. its 8.95. But this shortage only happens when i press that switch with my foot on the floor so its obviously that right? i already replaced the headlamp switch.
edit: btw is there anyway to move this switch to the dash? i find myself kicking the flooor at night trying to find it. haha

i don't know if this will help or not but when i replaced my kicker pannels it put pressure on the floor dimmer switch and my lights didn't work at all. took me forever to find this out but that switch is part of the circuit so if it goes you got no lights.
i don't know if there's a kit. But if you have room for a switch in the dahs and a nice switch that fits there why not run the cables there ?
check on the wiring diagram how it's set up. You can check as well with a 12V testlight.
from what it looks like it has 3 connectors:
High beam in off position
==========================
12V to headlight
c2 X---------
/
c1/
--------------------------X
12V from Light switch
c3 X--------- (0V at high beam)
\-------- (0V at high beamfull light indicator in dash)
High beam in on position
==========================
0V to headlight
c2 X---------
c1
--------------------------X
12V from Light switch \
\
c3 X--------- (12V at high beam)
\-------- (12V at high beamfull light indicator in dash)
So basically connect c1 to red/yellow from headlight switch
c2 to red/black (headlight)
c3 to green/black (high beam and indicator (printed circuit connector in dash)
Don't rely on all ove info as
- i don't own a 1970 mustang
- it's not tested
- i got info from wiring diagram and don't know if it's all correct
from the info above:
it could be either:
a) headlight switch can't hold the current as mentioned before (never thought of that)
b) the igh beam switch itself
c) it could be that the high beam lamps are gone as well. from what the wiring diagramsays, the headlights are OFF, while full beam is on. this is a common behaviour when headlight and full beam are in one bulb or lamp.
you can always check the switch and connectors at lamps now with this info, but from what you say (you have to fiddle with the switch) I'm having the same opinion: the high beam switch at floor is dodgy
