Default Wheel Spacing Question

I have set of 17" 2006 GT rims and tires I want to mount on my 68 mustang. My question is, I currently have a 1.5" billet spacers on the front tires and the rims only clear the upper control arm by about 1/16". When I turn the wheels, the rims rub the upper control arm, not good. I could go to a 2" spacer, but I am wondering if anyone else has done this. Is this safe? Obviously, the load would still be on the billet spacer. The backspace on the rims I believe is almost 6". Thanks.

i have 2 inch spacers. not a good idea. im getting rid of my wheels and getting different ones. mine are from an 05 and the BS is different on the 05+ compared to the 01-04 bullits.

true66gt, thanks. Any reason why this is not a good idea? I know guys run 2" spacers on jeeps and they do offroading. Seems like just the casual driving would not be that bad. Again, I am no expert, that is why I am asking these questions.

Wheel spacer is a bandaid most racing events won't let you use them if your hard cornering or braking it could sheer off your lugs.Thats a jeep it don't go fast enough to break anything lol.Only way to fix it right is new rims with the right back spacing or bigger brakes that change the back spacing.

its just dangerous. the more bolts and nuts you have the more unsafe it is. i already heard a bunch of stories of peoples wheels falling off as it is. and it would be even worse with thick spacers. if theyre too thick, it moves the wheels far enough out which moves the leverage point farther out and makes it more stressfull on the studs. im getting rid of my 2 inchers and getting new wheels all together. i only have to run 1 inch spacers on the rear though.
