I'm not Shellby bashing. I just wanted to comment on the deisgn - which I had never taken a close look at before. I wasjust surpirsed how cheap some of the "labeling" and speical luxary packages are on Shellbys - G-d awful! That said, it certainly doed not take away from the adavnced engineering or out-of-this-world collector value of these historic machines. Of course, I wish I could afford to own one.

+1 on that. the machines themselves are deffinatly an amazing piece of work. just the interior design side of things leaves much to be desired.
now that i think about it, who was incharge of the design side of the KR? was it shelby himself, with other people, or someone else entirely?

Gotta remember thats a normal mustang interior with some shelby badges and a cougar consle added. Yeah the 68 had the ugliest steering wheel.I love the interior of the 67 more but id still love to drive that car give my left arm to own one.

I attended a SAAC meettwice (Charlotte), my first and last. I understand thingshave went back and forth for the last couple of years between Shelby and the higher ups at SAAC. Its a shame they could'nt all get along. Unfortunately when the lure of money is involved, relationships can quickly change. Without SAAC, maybe the Shelby name may not be where it is today. In my opinion, they oweeach other a lot. It would have been a better end result if things could havebeen resolved without an all out battle. Maybe Shelby will sethis club up withall the procedes going to his charity, that would get a "thumbs up" from me.

Poor old Shelby is just scraping by on the hopes of favorable litigation. It's tough being a chicken farmer

I had a chance today to take a drive in a '68 Shellby GT500KR. Red with white top, mustard tan interior. All original. The car is worth 250,000 to 300,000. I was not impressed
The interior is very cheesy - lots of fake woodgrain, guady counsol (stiched leather or vinyl - I'm not sure which), ugly color. Overall just a cheap feel to it.
So what was it like to ride in? We only made it a few hundred feet before the car stalled out. After repeated attemtps to get it going they had to push it back into the shop. I spoke to the wrenches who have worked on it - they said it was scary fast but not big fans of the look or the general drive of the thing. I guess somtimes fantasies are better left alone..

I doubt that you'd be overly impressed with any of the 60's Chrysler Hemi cars either - my Dad has always shopped at the Chrysler stores, mostly at the local Dodge dealer. While the basic styling wasn't bad, the details were nothing special and there was an 'econobox' flavor to all of them (relative to, say, the Oldsmobiles and T-birds of the same era) regardless of thepowertrain.
You do tend to overlook the less desirable aspects of these cars when you're looking through the mists of time and nostalgia.
