Default steering box rebuild

so i have been hunting high and low for the bearings to go on the input shaft on my 66 manual steering box.

NPD has the bearings, but for 90 bucks a pair, wich is ridiculously high. So i hunted around and found a guy up in ohio that rebuilds these boxes. I gave him a call and he gave me the number for the bearings (we will see if its the right #) but he kept trying to get me to send him my box so he could rebuild it.

he said something about tig welding the worm nut 37 degrees over wire, but i have no idea what he is talkin about.

is this guy just jerkin my chain or is there something i should know?

Lucky you just posted this because i just tore my steering gear box assembly completly down
I visited HTTP://www.stangersite.com and read up on some info The places that rebuild these boxes would love to have your service ofcourse. But my box was just fine no corrosion my worm gear was not pitted it was smooth and no water was in the box basically i just needed to replace my bearings. I have the box at napa its getting cleaned in a tank i will post pics of what it looks like when i get back. You can build your own box its simple im doing it why not jump on the band wagon? iv never heard of tig welding a worm nut over the wire

thanks for the pics,

where did you get the replacement bearings?

i have no clue about the 37 degrees over wire either, i dont think there are any wires or worm nuts in my box

i think the guy was just tryin to screw with me telling me i needed a lathe and all kinds of crap

i may only be 17, but im not a dumbass, and if i dont know what im doing then i just go to somebody that is older and wiser for their help

Well all evidence points to bullsh*t to me, theres no wire in my damn box especailly over the dang worm gear. I have a bearing shop that i can oder the bearings through that may be cheaper if you have a shop near by, but if you have the numbers on the bearings napa or an auto store should be able to oder them for ya other wise here ya go http://www.superiormustangparts.com/...d=C5ZZ-3548-RK let me know if you have any further questions
