I am a member of another site called the Cracker Barrel, and there is a discussion on there about filters. Seems as though they feel the Mobil 1 and the Purolator are right up there with Wix and Motor Craft. The Purolator costs 3.99 at Sears.

I'd have to agree with 69fecoupe on this one. I've had several 'Stangs in the past 20yrs, both V-8 and I-6 engines, and always used 10W40. Only use a Synthetic if you're POSITIVE the engine has been rebuilt since the early 80's. The seals on older engines were made of different compounds than they are now, and 9 out of 10 times, synthetic will leak past them.

My engine has 188,000 original miles on it, and I am POSITIVE it has not been rebuilt since the early 80s. After switching to synthetic, it leaked for about a month or six weeks. That's been a number of years now and not another drop.

Well, this is a very emlightening Thread. I have always used Fram Filter in all my cars, and never had an issue. I had a 96 Ranger that I put 120,000 on before selling it to my dad, with no issues ever. A 96 F-150 with the 5.0 that had 90,000 when I bought it and 130,000 when I traded it. My 99 escort ran just over 100,000 woth Fram filters before I traded it last month on my 02 Stang. I haven't changed the oil on the 72 stang yet since I had only driven it like 400 miles at most since I have had it. I am definatley changing filter brands after reading this thread.

In my daily driver the 99 escort and now the 02 stang I was/will be changing the oil about every other month because I drive over 100 miles a day to and from work.
