390FE and Points
Update: in the 11th hour I wimped out and bought the Pertroniks kit. I think I was making it way more difficult than it needed to be. I still need to set the timing with this electronic setup, right?
yes on that. the pertronix will adjust perfect dwell for you. better than any points. but you'll def have to adjust intial timing.
unplug vacuum advance at distributor side and plug the hose. when car is idling you should have around 10 degrees advance.
you can adjust the timing by loosening the bolt holding the distri and turning the distri a tiny bit while engine is running
when you have those 10 close the bolt on distri again. that should do for starters.
there are 2 pertronxi kits. the original ignitor and the ignitor II. which ones did ya buy?

Thanks for the tips guys.
I got the original one for now. If I want I can upgrade to the II at a later time. Mostly because the parts shop could have a 1 here this afternoon.

Well it looks like I got duped. The speedy service was too good to be true. They sold me a setup for a 6cyl. I am contacting Pertronix directly tomorrow to see what exact model number I need.

haha that really sucks man, i always open my boxes before i leave the store, ive ben given wrong gaskets and steering parts, one iw as even given some chevy engine parts... hope u get that settled out.
I just got back from the parts store. I ordered up the Ignitor II and the Flamethrower II coil. Do it once and be done with it....right? About $200 and the parts should last a long time.
side note: my coil has a wire going between both of the small posts. Why would someone do that and why does the car not start if that wire is removed.
another side note: I was looking at my distributor last night and the vacuum advance hose is non-existant....bad?

is this what your talking about http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7016/p1030717qa9.jpg might not look the same but i think its the same if so i think its just the power supply for it.
Is that your coil? Odd looking. Mine is the round one. I just went out to look at it again [hadn't in awhile] and I can't see the wire I was talking about. I must be either on crack or I removed it. But anyways, here is my lack of a vaccuum advance tube and not sure where it would even go on this funky carb I have.
