crazy lights
so i finally got my new engine and transmission in and running good but my lights are all screwy now the blinkers dont work and when i press the brakes they work but the front blinkers also get lit up so does anyone know what can cause this

awww man...im really sorry. i have screwy turn signals and stuff too, not a fun problem. i couldnt fix them and i took it to a shop and they had it for 2 weeks and couldnt figure it out so theyre still not fixed. good luck, i really cant help you. just look over a wiring diagram and see if you find any crossed wires or lose grounds
I just replaced all the wiring in my car about 6 months ago and ran into a similar problem. Every time I would hit the brake, all of my interior lights and my left blinker would come on. It ended up being a left rear tail light bulb that was inserted incorrectly (at an angle) and was shorting out. I'm not sure if you've replaced your bulbs lately, but just a thought. May be worth a look.

in 99% of all cases where lights come on that shouldn't come on there's a ground issue
a) either the chassis is not grounded properly (cable from bat- to chassis)
b) corroded connectors
...
p-ut it this way: you have the brakelight and indicatorlight in the same housing. they get different feeds from+ when switched, but they both hook up to the same ground wire. If this ground wire is not connected to ground then the + feed from your brakes will go through the indicator lamp as well and tries to find ground somewhere else. if it does you'll have both lamps lighting at half the power ...
check all connectors at all bulbs at the rear of the car (including the license plate light)
there should be a black cable from your right indicator/brake light going straight to the right backup light.
This is the ground for your brake light, as this cable goes from there (right backup light) straight to the chassis of the car.
(same on the left hand side)
if you can't get it sorted ... do you have a multimeter or a testlight ?

+1 All the grounds have to be good. Also their is a lot of switching in the steering column. Often these contacts can bridge over and cause trouble. In your situation, it sounds like their is a loose ground and the circuit ishaving to goanother route and maybe eventhru the filaments of thebulbs. If so, the brightness of the bulb (lack of) is a good indicator that a defective ground is present, they will be very dim. Also its a good time to change out the old thermal flashers to solid state units. These make finding electrical problems easier, and still will work with one bulb out.
