Default What a great day!

So I bought new rims and tires off a guy last fall. Since today is somewhat nice up here in Mass (sunny skies and about 48 degrees) I decided to put the new wheels on.

Here is a before and after pic. And the best part is the last pic. I found out that I have front disc brakes!!!!!! I assumed that I had drums all around because my brakes have always sucked. So do I need to replace the master cylinder to get the discs working properly? What an awesome surprise- I'm pumped.

Bleed the brakes first. Then take it slow for a few blocks to take the rust off the rotors. You could replace the pads, old ones may be glazed.

good way to check if your calipers need a rebuild or you need new ones is, take the pads out and see if there even. if there no even, you might need to rebuild or get new ones.

Congrats on everything! The disk brake thing is arare find. I'd buy new pads and rotors myself and have the calipers checked. Brakes to me is the most important thing on the car. Stopping is number one in my book. Fast is great but stopping is more important. You could likely get replacement rotors and pads for under 150.00 and replace them yourself. Calipers kit should be around 20 to 30 bucks for new seals and likely 100 to 150 if you need to replace them.

I replaced the front and rear pads and rotors on my 03 explorer last fall and it was pretty easy and cheap. Many of the local shops wanted 600 to 800 bucks to do this. I dropped into the local Autozone and picked up 4 rotors and all new pads for just over 200 bucks. It was my first time doing a brake job so I spent another 100 bucks on a new floor jack and jack stands.

Oh and having 4-wheel disks on my explorer has confirmed that I will be added rear disks to the mustang down the road. The stopping power is incredible!

I remember there was a member on here that would pay 300$ for used brake assemblies if they were factory disks, so they must be pretty rare. I was going to do that, but I found out somewhere done the line someone put Granadas on mine.

Maybe it was CSRP..
