front axle squeeking -- stupid question
Ok here it goes. Car was squeaking like mad.
I had the front springs and shocks replaced by a shop and they were nice enough to grease the whole front axle as it was dry. squek gone.
No i'm here with a grease gun and greased every nipple I could find (that sounds strange).
But I believe I';m missing a spot on the upper controi arm.
I know there should be another nipple as I believe that's were the grease fitting kits go that are sold.
Does anyone know where to find it or how to grease it without those fease fitting kits ?
thanks for any info

Sure, if you go to an auto parts/hardware store (Do they havenon-metric parts available in Cork?) you can buy just the 90 degree zerk fitting and temporarlily put it in the spot where the plug came out of (it's on the end of the UCA bushing caps). It's really tough to get at the plugs though, but can be done. Other than cutting a hole in the tower (I know you won't but please don't) there is no easy way to do it.-sorry.

If it really is your front axle squeaking in the mustang, you will never be able to fix it.

heheeeeee ..... to put it technically correct: some yokamagic makes noise when i go over bumps ...
or more common here: "car makes weird noise sometimes" *fg*
they should have the inch stuff here as well as the english ruled this country for a while
so what are UCA bushing caps ? sorry i'm not native english
I'm in the process of ordering those grease fittings from NPD, so that should sort me out once I figured where they should go ...?

ahhh get it ... UCA=upper control arm ... sigh ....
lemme check again tomorrow when it's bright if I can at least find the nipple (isn't that sad when a man has problems with that)

Upper control arm.
Zerk grease fitting there is one on each side way back up where it mounts into the shock tower. The ones pictured have 90 degree fittings but your car might have straight fittings on there now

This is actually not usually where front end squeaks come from. In my experience they come from 1 of 3 places:
1. Top of the spring where it sits against the under side of the top of the shock tower, there is a small peice of plastic called a spring isolator that should be in there. They sometimes degrade and/or are not installed. I do not have one installed on my car
2. Bottom of the spring where it sits in the saddle of the spring perch. The perch has 2 little rubber pieces that degrade in time and go away.
3. Sway bar bushing. Alot of people put new sway bars on and use the fancy poly bushings. These are a great little piece and don't wear out, but unless you put a grease fitting on the bracket that holds them, they will squeak after installation and a few hundred miles.

thanks! I'm nearly convinced I have nothing where you you have the 90degree nipple.
But thanks very much as i know now what to hunt for.
thanks as well for pointing out the other spots.
Grease gun will come out again tomorrow ;-)

And dry upper ball joints also cause a squeek that is normally associated with an UCA bushing. (an old timer showed me this fact when I was first starting outin the wrench turning business- too many years ago). If the lads haven't greased the ball joint's it may be a quick fix.
