Default heads

I was wondering if these heads will fit on a 302 engine, they are 351C 4V closed chambered Cobra Jet heads w/ valves and springs. The guy wants 600 for them plus shipping, I was just wondering if these will work. thanks

Not without a lot of work. Cleavland heads on a Winsor engine is being called a Cleavor. Google seach that and you will get a lot of info on how to.

With the availability of good aftermarket 302 heads, it doesn't really make sense anymore to do a clevor conversion for power alone. Not to mention, running heads on a 302 with ports that big would mean you'd have to wind the living **** out of it to maintain any sense of streetability. Not saying it wouldn't be awesome But it's not really cost effective.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Boss 302s were 302 Windsors with Cleveland heads. At least that is what I have read. I cannot say for sure if the Boss 302 heads we actual Cleveland heads or just modeled after them. As most poeple know, the Boss 302 was a bad dude 40 years ago. It was a high reving Trans Am engine that flowed a bunch of air at high rpms.

That being said, there are much more streetable heads that will perform just as good in the aftermarket today. AFR, Trick Flow, CHI, Dart, Brodix, etc. Unless you are going for a Boss 302 clone and want it pretty authentic, I would just go with aftermarket heads. You will be happier.

The Cleveland heads on the Boss 302 were a unique casting so the C head could bolt to the W block without any water passage mods. As was posted earlier you can physically bolt a C head to a W block but the water passages won't line up. You are much better off buying an aftermarket W head.
Also, all Cleveland CJ heads were open chamber, not closed.

What kind of aftermarket heads would someone recommend for a 1971 302 in order to get a good amount of horsepower at a decent price?

I have listed some in the post above. There are also some better performing Ford stock heads like the GT-40s, but I would go with an aftermarket. They are going to perform better. I personnaly put on AFR heads, but most aftermarket heads are going to run $1500+. If you are going to go thru the trouble of switching heads, think about doing a cam swap as well. That way you can make use of that extra air flow potential. Please ask someone knowledgable about the size of heads you want to buy and the duration of cam you want. If you go too big, you are going to hurt more than you are going to help.

but did the boss use a blocked water passage, and a recut gasket or somthing, to modify the water route? or is this just a modification to get simimlar effects?
