Default Intake question

Sorry if thismay be a beated subject but, I'm thinking about pulling out the 2V carb/intake on my 289 and throwing on either my 302 OEM 4v intake/carb or going with Edelbrock's Performer intake/carb setup. Performance wise, are they going to be about the same? If I recall right, the difference between HP with a 302 2v vs 4v was about 10HP. Would the Edelbrock setup be a bit more?

With the OEM carb, I think I would have to rebuild it (there some cobwebs inside of it[:-]). Is that a task not for the unexperienced?

The 289 is pretty much stock except the PO told me he put a "warmer" cam in there when it was rebuilt.

Thanks

Definitely go with an aluminum manifold. Unless you're restoring for show points, I don't see any reason to ever put a cast iron manifold back on an engine. The weight savings alone are worth it, IMO.

Either the Edelbrock Performer Plus or the Weiand 8124 will work well as a stock upgrade. The Weiand is a newer, slightly better design, but if you run across an Edelbrock for cheap I wouldn't pass it up. It is NOT simply an aluminum version of the factory cast iron manifold, as some people seem to believe.

With a good manifold and a properly tuned ~500CFM carb, I'd expect about a 10hp increase. The real benefit will be in throttle response and top end pull.

Go with the edelbrock. It will be a little more power but more importantly, more user friendly.

Anyway you are not really taking advantage of the 'warmer' cam without a better flowing intake.
