Carpet underlayment? What is this stuff?
I used some heat insulation from Dixiline lumber this past weekend.. I dont think its going to last very long though.. It was a sandwich of aluminum, bubble wrap, and more aluminum,, it really cut down the heat and with the extra carpet on top the noise came down too.. But I only did the cabin floor, Its a hell of a lot better than the bare floor that I had before..
Well... I could be wrong but...
I look at sound and heat deadening products differently from carpet underlayment. Yes I know the underlay helps in this area but I look at it as more of a cushion floor to make the carpets softer
Our car is getting something like the following...
POR-15ed - top of firewall right back into the trunk.
3M Seam Sealer - brushed on over all the joints and seams.
Dupli-Color Bedliner - 2 coats over POR-15.
Damplifier Pro - firewall, floors, roof, trunk, trunk divider, rear wheelwells, quarter & fender panels.
Spectrum - Over all the Damplifier Pro and possibly on the undercarriage.
Dupli-Color Bedliner - 2 coats over Spectrum.
Original style Jute Underlayment - front & rear floors, tunnel and firewall
Toped off with new Carpet.
Overkill? ehh who knows! Should be quiet though and thats what she wants. As all you married guys know.. she typically gets what she wants!

That is way overkill and will just add weight. Spectrum is an undercoating so there is no need for bedliner on top of it, that is just extra weight. You should put the spectrum on the underside of the car and just do away with all the bedliner, spectrum is designed to perform on the exterior. You should also put some luxiery liner in, that will help with noise a lot.

For anyone considering sound deadening, I strongly suggest NOT getting Dynamat. That stuff is so overpriced its rediculous. What is it?, 245$ for 36sqft?
I did 100sqft of Fatmat, and it came with a handy little roller and knife, for about 80$ shipped. Then I adhered Tekfoil to the roof and firewall to greatly reduce heat. It's the same as that shiny stuff old people put under their windshield to keep the sun out.
Alltogether I spent about 100$ and only added around 30lb. Tekfoil is near weightless.

are you pleased with the results?
i have a 67 daily driver that is all orignial and im considering this addition to help make the drive more bearable.
I highly recommend RAAMmat over FATMAT since FATMAT is asphalt based and RAAMmat is butyl
For any who are interested, RAAMaudio is selling rolls of RAAMmat on ebay for $80 plus shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...95489&rd=1
There was a problem in production so they are offering it cheaper, read the auction or RAAMaudio's webpage to learn more.
