For anyone considering sound deadening, I strongly suggest NOT getting Dynamat. That stuff is so overpriced its rediculous. What is it?, 245$ for 36sqft?

I did 100sqft of Fatmat, and it came with a handy little roller and knife, for about 80$ shipped. Then I adhered Tekfoil to the roof and firewall to greatly reduce heat. It's the same as that shiny stuff old people put under their windshield to keep the sun out.

Alltogether I spent about 100$ and only added around 30lb. Tekfoil is near weightless.
are you pleased with the results?

i have a 67 daily driver that is all orignial and im considering this addition to help make the drive more bearable.
The car is not road worthy right now so I cant truely tell you the results, but I garuntee you noise will be greatly reduced. 100sqft was enough to do all the cabin and double many places up (wheel wells, transmission tunnel, roof above driver seat, etc). I did part of the trunk too, but then found it unnecessary becuase I instead made a rear seat divider and sealed the cabin from the trunk well. I figured the trunk can be as loud as it likes, as long as I cant hear it.

^^^^thank you i appreciate your response.

now you used fat mat for the floor and then tekfoil for everything else?

and if you dont mind me asking how long did it take to do all this? is this a weekend job or is this more like a spring break/winter break/summer job.

I highly recommend RAAMmat over FATMAT since FATMAT is asphalt based and RAAMmat is butyl
Fatmat is not asphalt, it is just like raammat (butyl) but it is cheaper. I havent compared thickness between those two, but even is RM is thicker, it wouldn't compensate the price...

Here Hot70, I posted pictures of my progress back in January. They seem to be usefull in showing how much you can actually cover with 50sqft and 100sqft. I don't believe they show the Tekfoil, I'll have to find separate pictures of them....

Actually.. FatMat IS asphalt (rubberized) based... Read 1/2 way down page.

I ran out of Fatmat for the firewall, so I bought some PeelnSeal to put on it, then the Tekfoil, then some new OEM style that I had laying around anyways. Come out real nice IMO

thanks i found this very helpful. how air tight does the foil have to be? it looks very taught over the floor. was this very hard to achieve such a tight fit or is it somewhat average skill level to put in.

It came with a little wooden roller that flattens it all out. The more I worked with it the quicker and better I got at laying it down smooth..

If your doing the floor, its not that important to have it all flat and stuff, but if you do vertical or completly upside down, you HAVE to roll it nice and flat. Actually, I'd highly suggest using a heat gun when doing vertical or upside down. It makes it extra sticky...

and the best part... that'll add at least 200lbs to your car
Not quite, perhaps 100 but I see 1 person driving it 85% of the time alone and the other 15% only 1 passenger (me). Also there really isn't that much weight being added. The Bedliner weighs almost nothing so a few light coats is fine. The biggest "extra" thing I'm adding is the Spectrum. Other than that its not much more then people who POR15, Seam Seal, Prime, Paint Sound/Heat Deadener, Carpet.

ORIGINAL: snorulz
That is way overkill and will just add weight. Spectrum is an undercoating so there is no need for bedliner on top of it, that is just extra weight. You should put the spectrum on the underside of the car and just do away with all the bedliner, spectrum is designed to perform on the exterior. You should also put some luxiery liner in, that will help with noise a lot.
While Spectrum is an undercoating it can still be used inside the car and is actually recommended to do so by Second Skin. From their website: "When applied to the interior and exterior floor pan, Spectrum can reduce 300% more road, engine and exhaust noise than traditional OEM dampers and tar boards, all at half the weight." I've called and asked them a number of questions and using the Spectrum in this manor will provide a really quite ride.

As for the bedliner.. as above its really only light coats which does not weigh that much. The fact that I was given 2 cases of the spray cans compels me to use somewhere. I guess I could go without it on the POR-15 however I'd prefer to have bedliner/paint over the Spectrum. Regarding the Luxury Liner product I was looking at that and would replace the underlayment with it if I were to use it.

i know you can use spectrum inside and out, i thought you were going to use the bed liner just to protect it on the outside and that is not necessary. If you are given a couple cases of bed liner then you might as well use it, i i had a bunch for free i would find some place to use it also. If you do the whole car you will add 100lbs just in damplifer, the weight adds up fast but so does the sound dampening. I highly recommend luxury liner, i bought some and it is great stuff, a lot like what is used in the luxury vehicles today.

For anyone who doesn't believe me to be a creditable source I put a lot of time into research when i was trying to kill the drone in my grandprix and what i am sharing is some of what i learned along the way. Second skin makes some good products. My mustang will be getting a coating of spectrum in the tranny tunnel when i have the tranny out, the rest of the bottom will get it after i replace the floorboards. RAAMmat will go inside and that will be covered in luxury liner.

FATMAT IS asphalt based, not butyl unless they just changed it. If that is the case please let me know. I highly recommend reading the first link i posted for anyone who is thinking about doing sound dampening. It is a unbiased study on the different brands.
