FATMAT IS asphalt based, not butyl unless they just changed it. If that is the case please let me know. I highly recommend reading the first link i posted for anyone who is thinking about doing sound dampening. It is a unbiased study on the different brands.
Hmmm, well, I might be wrong then I guess. I looked on their website and it says "rubberized compound", but the place I bought it says butyl. Either way, I still like it...

Another cheap(ish) option is eDead. I alsoknow a 15% off code that makes it nicer...

a place that sells lots of car audio equipment would be your best place to buy it local

It's going to depend on what products you use. Your likely best off to simply buy it online from whichever company. If you have questions just call them, if there is a problem just call them. Not gonna get that from most parts shops who will likely charge more and taxes.

Yes.. I read that "rubberized compound" comment on their website. Hmm.. The word compound is much nicer than asphault isn't it? I really hate when a company does this crap to sell their products. This and the fact that the place you bought it from lied about its makeup would tick me off. If it were truly a butyl product you can be sure it would be stated on their website.. which it isn't.

For anyone interested in the Second Skin products sign up over at their forums and make a few posts. When you purchase from them directly call them and let them know. Its worth 20% off your order!

anthony(the owner of secondskin) told me they stopped doing the discount and just lowered all their prices to make up for it. If you got this recently let me know, i will most likely be placing an order this summer. You can get 10% off if you load up your shopping cart and do all the the steps to complete the order BUT do not submit the order. Go to bed and when you wake up in the morning you will have an e-mail with a 10% off code. Well that is what happened to me 6 months ago, i just wanted to see what shipping was going to cost.

Secondskin is great to work with. When i ordered 2 gallons of spectrum for some reason only 1 gallon came even though the order showed 2 were shipped and the weight was 20lb's according to the box(1 gallon weighs 10lbs). The weird thing was that the size of the box would only allow for 1 gallon to be shipped. I called up second skin and they had another gallon coming to me that same day, no questions asked. I was very impressed.

a few days ago i went with a friend to an audio store for him to look at stuff for his car. after listening to the salesman go on and on about dynamat, I wish I would have done it on my entire interior. It will keep sound out, help with vibration, and greatly improve the sound quality of your audio system. Dynamat is expensive so I would look in to fatmat or some off brand cuz it will prolly do the same thing.

well i still have the 'underlayment kit' that came on these things stock, so its not too terrible. You can definitely hear and feel the road and engine. And at idle the whole car vibrates (combo of my crappy engine, and possibly the lack of dynamat). I would go with one of the aftermarket products if I were to do it again.
