Which Transmission
thanks, andrewmp6 and Daze for clearing that up for me. I guess i should keep looking till I find a mustang from 1990-1993. so If I understand correct an AOD will be a one piece trans (can't change the front part). thanks again.

Sounds like somebody needs to find a good AOD builder. I am a Trans builder and former Senior Master Ford tech. AOD are great. I have had them behind 900hp with no prob. 4R70W's share the alot of the same internals. If someone builds one and really knows what they are doing the shifts are great and you will have a trans to last for a very long time. You can install the 4R70W gear set in them also and don't have to have a computer to run it. 4R70W's are very prone to breakage, very worn valves and broken mechanical diodes. This is not the issuse with the AOD. I have built AOD's chirping the tires without shift kits in 2nd and 3rd and they have been in the same vehicle now for over 15 years.

I will never get over the "stay away from AOD's". Both 5spds and autos stock are crap from factory but when you rebuild them right....well you can do a lot of hammering......Mine had stock two piece input shaft with a locking converter, went 12.60'sin the 1/4 mileall day long and lots of green light smoke shows...never broke it....
