transmission questions
Ok I bought a C-4 to put in the covertible I am not planning on making alot of horse power. So my problem or question is this. The torque convertor has teeth on it. I have no flywheel or flex plate, I am looking, Is this a setup that was maybe used on a 6cyl model? When I went to Napa to try and order one, they showed me what looked like a flywheel teeth and all. I tried to rob one off of the Galaxy that I bought, but it has a two speed cruise-o-matic. Then I noticed that I might have aproblem with the bell housing being to small. Is there a parts decoder out there that will help me identify what I got?
Thanks alot for any suggestions
Oh I am installing a 302.

I believe pre 70 6cyl C4's had the gear on the converter. I don't know if you can swap this to the other style because the converter with the gear had a smaller in put shaft than the V8 model and I think there is also a difference in the bellhousing for converter clearance.
Maybe you can swap it for a V8 version of a C4?

Ok I found out it is a C4 for a 6cyl. Does anyone know if I can just buy a bell housing torque convertor and fly wheel for the C4 I have or do I need to buy a complete new tranny?
It is my understanding that there were two different trannys for the 6 and 8 cyl. I had a 65 with a 6 cyl and was going to do a V8 swap and was told that I would have to change the tranny. I could be wrong though..........

Ok, you have a 24 spline C4, you will just need to get a different converter (just be sure you get a 24 spline version), and a different bellhousing. Check to see though because some C4 bellhouings bolted to the case and some bolted on with the same bolts that hold the pump in. However, you should be able to make it work no problem.
