Default 67 Cross member ?

I'm coverting a 6 in a row Mustang to V-8 power. the 6 has a crossmember kind of a flatend tube between the motor mounts and steering linkage connecting the frame together.

My V-8 donor car don't have it. (wondering if it clears oil pan)

My ? is it missing from the V-8 body or its it only on 6 cyl cars?

I also noticed a differance in the stock tower brace the V-8 is much heavier.

I think that is a I6 only, I have a I6 coverted to 8 car here so I'll look at it in the morning, but I would sugeest beefing the towers or replacing them with 8 cylinder towers. Hope I helped.

I have a cross member in my 67, the oil pan straddles that member though, don't have any problems.

Not sure about the I6 but I know my 67 with a 289 had a crossmember, which most have. When I upgraded to r&p, this replaced the crossmember. You should be able to pick one up for $60 or so from any parts house. I had an original and a repro, I must say the repro fit like crap. The dimensions were good but the flatten ends were not flat enough so if I had to use it, instead of the r&p, I would of been required to flatten the crap out of it. It just wasn't pressed enough for the mounting bolts to fit like the original. Not sure if they are all this way but I expect these pieces come from the same manufactuer. Yes, the engine will fit fine with this crossmember in, it's part of the overall design. (as long as you have the correct oil pan)

Here's the engine bay on my '67 Coupe with a 289 V8. It has the cross member.

If you don't have one, I'd definitly put one on there. I see them for like 20$ on Ebay...

Mine clears the 351W with a good bit of space...
