$2800 Craigslist Find.
I'm 17 as well and to be honest, I don't recommend buying one of these unless you've got another car which you can drive while the Mustang is down. They're reliable cars (I have a 289) but, especially when it's new to you, things will go wrong which you aren't anticipating.
That I6 is weak and won't meet the expectations of your friends haha. If you want a Mustang without much power then go for it but the 6 cylinders have never appealed to me much...even the 4.0 in the new ones.
As for budget keep in mind that it's not like a new car where you can cut it close. You've got to have a decent amount of bank stored up for when problems arise in the near future as well or else you're hosed.

im 17 also, find a reliable stang first, then buy a classic to work on.
i bought my stang when i was almost 16 and i got a great deal!!!
keep your eyes open for a newer stang, without alot of problems, so you know you have a reliable car.
I got some more pictures from a guy with a 1967 coupe, with a 289. (automatic)
"7,000 miles. 289ci, Auto. Good condition. California car. Vin# 7R01C229636. Original floorboards. Some GT parts. Many new parts; recent total brake overhaul, tires, 4bbl Edelbrock carb, frame stiffeners, wood steering wheel, stereo, chrome parts, seat covers and carpet. Factory air conditioning (not working) AC pump included (not installed). Minor rust pass door and rear qtr."
When I asked him how it runs, he said "Runs fine. Hard to start sometimes." He wants $8900.
He supplied me with a generous amount of pictures, including the rust spots. Here they are:

Rust spots on passenger door and rear quarter.

That's a decent find. What is he asking? Can he get some pics of the floorboards for you? Is that the orignal paintjob? How far is he from you...where's he located?
Beware of that rust. It's rarely minor. If you can see a little then there's probably a lot, especially on cars this age.

"Original floorboards" - you will want to check those very closely.
I am currently looking into how I am either going to replace my floorpans myself or pay someone to get them done. Your choices are have a decent amount of money to buy a welder and learn to use it then spend a couple hundred on the sheet metal or have even more money and pay someone to replace them.
