Transmission Question
I drove my fastback on the highway yesterday for the first time since July! I noticed that when going from 2nd to 3rd the tranny sounded like it was slipping a little and then going in gear. My question is will a filter and fluid change help this or is it just a result of it sitting for so long? Thanks. BTW its a C4 behind a 200 I6.
I'd change both before jumping to any other conclusions.. Run it around a little before you change them to get the fluid up to temp and then try not to burn yourself when you drop the pan.. Get all that nasty stuff out of there and then see if it helps. How is your fluid level now? Does the fluid look clean?
It's more than likely seals that are on the way out from not driving it, but a trans flush and fluid/filter chaage is a good first step. Don't forget to drain the TC also. You can adjust the bands too while you have it pulled down for a fluid change, see the FSM for the procedure.
Well I feel stupid now. Turns out I was driving it in the little dot, not the big one. The little dot is "snow gear" that only goes to 2nd, the big dot is drive. When I drove it in big dot it shifted fine, so problem solved hopefully!
