Quick Question?
What is the vacuum hose (i think, its a thin metal tube) that runs from the rear of the intake manifold to what looks like the top of the transmission? Whats it called? Whats it do? Any help is appreciated...
I pulled it off when I was removing the intake. Im buying a new carb/intake setup soon, so I need to know what to with it.

i think you can get a new one.
but i know on mine, there was a 2" piece of rubber hose on each end. no fittings. there should be a block with like 3 or 4 vacuum port nipples on the manifold and a single nipple on the back of the tranny. mine had a u shaped rubber hose from the nipple on the tranny to the steel line.
and yeah it needs to go back on. once mine fell off the rear, and my tranny wouldnt shift outta first. i was like WTF!!! it took us a while to figure it out. cause i had just rebuilt the front suspension and we were wondering how the fk the tranny would get screwed up during a suspension mod lol.

There are no rubber hoses on mine. on the intake end, its about 3/4" nut w/ threads to go in the manifold. It also has a smaller nut w/ threads above it, so that the larger piece can spin while the tube stays still. I know this sounds confusing so ill put up a pic when I figure out how to.
On the transmission side, its just the same metal tube going all the way down. How did you put it back on? Its really tight down there and I dont want to drop trans for this.
Sounds like when I changed the oil and it would start up or even turn over...turned out it wasnt in park all the way. haha

the transmission side of that line should have a rubber vaccum line to hook to on the passenger side of the transmission. Should be about 2 or 3 inches long if I remember right. Been a while since i did mine.
Ok thanks. I looked on NPD, and they have something that looks right. Its called a Modulator Line. Does that sound right to anyone?
There is two different versions for the 289. One with a fitting on the end and the other with a rubber end. Im guessing mine had the fitting on the end. Does anyone know if either is better or if their interchangeable?
