Default Quick noob question

on the mustang im about to get later today, one of those bars is terribly rusted. do u know how much that would be to replace because it is welded to the body. its only rusted in one spot but its a deep rust almost reaching the body. i was thinking maybe you could weld steel to the inside bottom and sides of it rather then tear the body apart. or could i use a bolt on frame stiffiner.

can it be fixed with http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/pr...8&cat=0&page=7

It can be fixed. However, If there is significant rust/rot on the frame rail, likely there is more. Make sure you check the rest of the frame rails thouroughly. You cannot fix it with the "subconnectors" you have the link to. They are for stiffining the chassy, but you must have solid frame rails to begin with. What you will need are replacement floor supports. If everything else, the floor etc., is solid and you only have a rot hole in place you may be able to patch with a peice cut off a replacement, but I would think likely the whole rail is shot and should b replaced. I would thin a welding shop would charge about 500 just to cut out and replce one floor support. Just a guess though.

Again, rust repair can get expensive. Its like an iceberg too. you typically only see a little until you start ripping it apart. If there is more to be done you may want to pass and look for a more solid car.

Do you have any pics of the actual car?

Good luck.
