Default Transmission Question

I have an AOD in my 69. For those that have been keeping up with my posts this will not come as a surprise.

As I've stated before there was a nice puddle (good sized) under my car this past Saturday. Also, the OD has been burned out since the PO did not have the cable connected to make it function properly.

My Question is two fold:

I'm definitely getting the leak fixed so I can drive it. I'm leaning towards not bothering with the OD since I plan on swapping the AOD for a 6 speed.

I'm guessing having the AOD rebuilt would not be worth it since I hear it can cost 1200.00.

Just looking for opinions from everyone.

Btw this is not my DD.

If you put the money into it to fix it then you can sell it for a lot more and also a lot easier.

I would fix it if you have the funds. If not then your loss is someone elses gain. Craigslist it!

Talking

Well my mechanic pulled my transmission and his helper discovered that the housing was cracked all the way around (which explains the leak), he said the fluids look good so he's going to get me a used transmission housing and put all the guts into it.

Said it would cost about $55.00, so I'm happy it won't be as bad as I thought. Going to look at the band and see what needs to be done to restore the OD on it as well since they now have it pulled.

Crazy thing is the tailhousing was replaced (different color than the transmission) and yet it has a crack that goes all the way around the housing.

Like I told him I'm glad it was discovered in the shop rather than when I was driving down the road.

Little things like this make owning a classic very interesting.
