My first mustang!!
I got the paperwork all straightened out and the title is on it's way. So, the other day I went out to try and crank it by touching the positive battery cable to the other side of the starter solenoid. It cranks! So, now I've done the oil change, new plugs and wires, fuel filter, the fuel pump is still good. The only thing I haven't done is get the old gas out of the tank and seafoam it. I was going to take a hose from the fuel pump and put it into a gas can until I get the tank cleaned out. Now what do I do?
I'd try the hose in a gas can to see how she runs. Seafoam sounds like good stuff although I've never used it. If you have access to compressed air, I would blow out the fuel line from the tank all the way to the engine. It could be full of crud.

I would definitely replace the gas tank though. I just got my old one out, after siphoning out the 18 year old gas (which looked like apple cider when I poured it into a drum at the dump!). I wish I could take a good pic of the inside of the tank. There is more rust inside it than outside! The new tank and sending unit are read to go in, with some peace of mind as well!

Great news on the clear title, that is a real relief! I second the new gas tank and they are pretty cheap relative to other parts. At a minimum, pull it out and give it a good cleaning.
In the meantime you are ready to try and start it and you can run the engine from a gas can. Disconnect the rubber hose at the pump and install a longer piece that reaches into the can. MAKE SURE THE TRANNY IS IN NEUTRAL. Turn the key on and carefully using a screwdriver, short the large terminal on the solenoid (left one that the battery is connected to) to the small terminal next to it (S terminal - you can remove the push on connector to make it easier). That will crank the engine. Good luck and post your results!

The easies way is to clip a timing like on the coil secondary wire (big one to the distributor). Hold the timing light trigger while you crank it and it shoud flash. Then you can move it to any plug wire and do the same thing to verify that spark is getting to the plugs. I would try to start it before you try to troubleshoot it.
Okay "fakesnakes" thanks for the info. You also brought up a subject on which I know absolutely nothing about and that's timing. Can anyone explain to me the whole "timing thing". Thanks, Q
