Question Trouble with water pump install

I installed a high performance water pump on my 289 66 mustang and there is a leaK. I found a loose bolt at the bottom position and it would't tighten. It was a 1 1/4 and I increased in increments to 2 1/2 inches and at that point the head would't seat and would't tighten. I'm thinking that the bolt shoulder is preventing the threads from engaging? Do you think I need a bolt without a shoulder?

confused:

are you sure you didnt over tighten it and strip it? they dont need to be insanely tight. also, did you use blue permitex on the gaskets?

Sounds like you may have pulled the threads out of the hole. Are you saying that the bolt just keeps spinning or does it get tight and the head hasn't met the pump yet? If it is just spinning in the hole, you may need to pull it all back off and put a "heli-coil" in the hole.

Like racin said, you need to use Permatex or some kind of sealant on the seams or it will leak.

I don't think I over tightened it, but thread may be gone, someone suggested "Heli-Coil". I used #2 Grade A Gasket Sealant by permitex.

It just keeps turning and head never meets the pump.

I did use #2 gasket sealant, however the consistancy seemed two thick or dry.
