Exclamation Steering for 1969 Stang

Alrighty,
Well i got my mustang about a month ago and it's pretty beat up!

My problem is:
My steering column seem to be loose or something, whenever i move the steering wheel a clicking sound can be heard up by the wheel in the box.
I have no idea why...
Any ideas?

Should i just pull the thing apart and check it out?

This needs further diagnosis...Describe "loose". How much play is in the wheeel before the wheels turn? Is the clickinng coming from the steering box or the wheel?

The wheels turn with the steering wheel, there really is not much "Loose"-ness.

I believe that it is an after-market steering column, and i believe that the sound is coming from the bulge at the top of the shaft.

You didn't mention if power or not. Power is very loose by today's standards even if built to factory specs. Manual is better, but still not as good as rack and pinion that is now common.

Column bearings are known to go bad.

Especially the tilt columns

Congrats on the car. Great year, especially if you like a lot of room in the interior and engine bay.

If it's in the steering box, before you replace it, see if tightening it will stop the noise. If you have more than normal play (there will always be some play), you'll want to tighten it anyway.

It if's in the steering wheel, check out this thread:

Even with a stock wheel the turn sig cam and it's issues are the same.

Post more pics when you get 'em. 69 is king, lol.
