Default Transmission Question

Hey Guys,

So for the past several drives, my transmission seems like it's been "slipping". I have a straight six with a c4. When accelerating, The engine will rev and then catch. It's gotten progressively worse to the point were it takes 10 seconds to catch and then feels like it's popping in and out of gear. However when the car has been running for about 10 minutes It doesn't slip. I'm going to be putting a T5 in this spring, but would like to be able to drive it until then,

So what's going on here? The fluid level is correct. Should I change the fluid?

Thanks for your help.

What kind of fluid are you using?

I bought the car last year and haven't put any fluid in. What is a good fluid to use?

I've always liked B&M Trick Shift. It's a little more expensive but I've had good results.

Thanks for the info. Do you think that this will solve the "slipping" problem?

Use standard ford type F fluid if you are just adding some.(cheaper)
I doubt the previous owner used B&M trick shift in there.
It is generally not a good idea to mix fluids, It can be done, It's just not recommended.

As far as your slipping goes.
1. Check the fluid level
2. Change the fluid only, or
3. Change the fluid and filter (requires some mechanic abilities)
4. Look for cracked or worn vaccum hoses from the transmission to the manifold.A small leak can make the transmission act slow.
5. If none of the above helps it is most likely the pump inside your transmission is going out,and will require replacement or rebuilding. This will require you to remove the transmission from the car.

Changing the fluid or adding some should extend the life of the transmission a few months.
Until you can get that T-5 in there.
