Thanks for info JMD. Have lots of coolant in the radiator so that mixed with gunk. don't think I'll have a chance to drain water only. it's all mixed.
That said I'll probably drain, clean all of with carburator cleaner, change gaskets and refill after cleanup. I might just do it at home so I wouldn't have to tow the car to a buddy.
this way i just need to go over to him and get an oil filter and a proper torque wrench.
As well as buy some cheapo oil for running it for a few hours and then flush again ...
I just need to get something proper to collect oil the oil. don't want to spill it in front of the house. It's either that on saturday when I'm back or January. i'll see how i'll feel when I get back :=]

sooo ..., i came back on Saturday from germany.
My girlfriends car is a write-off. My Audi had broken a fanbelt and the mustang was just smiling at me. 3 cars and none of them running.

Since I had oil and the oversize felrpo gasket I drained water and oil. Took the whole lot apart. I was going quick as I was only back at 2 and it's getting dark at 5.
So i ripped out the intake, cleaned it all up. I had to use the original cork gaskets as i had no silicone. I was smearing Dirko (same stuff I used to seal my rear axle) around all the water ports after I cleaned/degresed everthing with a scraper and carb cleaner
It looked nice alright. Put it back together. I didn't need to move the intake the slightest bit. I was lucky enough that where I placed it was perfect.
So i slowlt closed the bolts in torque order. I did every screw slowly and about 5 times before I needed to use a rachet. Then torqued it. Put all together. Just finished before it got dark. Started the car and a few minutes later the same dilemma.
Car puking water, steam coming out of the breather (hot steam), and white clouds out of the exhaust. Either I'm too stupid for intake gaskets or I've blown the headgaskets (it's both sides). So as a next step I have to do the head gaskets. It will be January or later and I will order parts soon. Since I wanted new heads for next summer I'm going to order them now as well. don't know if I should cry or smile. bit of both

I decided on the edelbrock performer rpms. See new thread for that ...

Sounds good man.. Well as good as can be with the delima.. Its another one of those "while its apart. I might as well" Those heads will be great! What kind of internals do you have? Cam?

Kalli,

Sorry to hear about your dilema. I bought my car the end of April, drove it twice, and it's been in the shop ever since getting all the "little things" fixed that the inspector said were fine.

This week he's putting my rebuilt transmission in and putting two new front tires on it. Next is a wiring harness that I hope to have done (and paid for) by March. So I can drive it before a year has passed with me making payments.

sooo ... i waited for new gaskets from the states. I bought a full set including headgaskets and intakes. So we basically have every single gasket I could need in future twice. That should resolve all my "waiting for gaskets" for me or a buddy

I wanted to go new heads but budget dictated otherwise.

I spent the full Saturday pulling the heads off the engine (those bloody headers). I inspected all parts and I was actually quite surprised.
a) the block insider (below intake) looks like someone only cleaned it last week (shiny little ******).
b) someone must have installed a different cam and lifters. (at the very least the lifters are not stock).
c) the head was perfectly straight (checked with straight edge). The heads look surprisingly good after a clean (as good as C6AEs can look like ...)

what worried me most is that I couldn't see an obvious leak on the gaskets. Neither intake or heads. But I had a LOT of white gunk in oil the oil channels.

So I bolted the heads back on on Saturday night as well as the intake to let it settle over night
I removed the thermostat (at the moment I prefer an engine that runs cooler). I was running without thermostat for 3 years. It's just 3 months ago I put one in. So thermostat stays on the might be problem list. (air locks etc)

In the mornign checkled the torqued, spent the better half of the day putting the headers back on. Then in the evening turned the key and ...

it started on straight away once I turned distributor closer to where it should be, let it warm, adjusted timing.
Let it run and sit there. But nothing really happend. No puking, no stalling, no nothing. It just sat there and idled. No white smoke ?! could that be it? sorted ? :-)

So i let the oilfilter in and changed oil only. after the car was as warm as it gets I drained all that and poured new oil in with new filter. The colour is nearly good. I'll drive like is for a while and then change the whole lot again, but I guess it needs a while to fully mix up.

so all in all it looks very good. somewhen this week I'll go over to the car. start it up again and take it for a little spin. Then when cold re-torque everything. especially those stupid intake manifold bolts

all looks good. wish me luck !
