torque boxes... help
Also just to add.. You can find them as part number 114-1LH & 114-1RH on page 185 of the NPD online catalog. These are the Canadian versions. Don't get the 114-4XX "Import" versions! I've seen them both and the Import version is not as good.. even though it costs more.
It is a VERY tight fit! I had to use a small bottle jack to spread the rocker panel and rail extension a bit in order to wedge the torque boxes in. I measured before and afterwards and they closed back up perfectly. Didn't like doing it but there was no other way that we could see getting it in. However you do it just make sure to take careful measurements before, during every step and after you finish each step.
I really had a scare when something wasn't lining up correctly and thought I was gonna have to put it on a frame straightener. I called one of the shops who walked me through dropping a plumb bob from various points on the front, mid and rear frame, marking an X on the floor where they rested and then taking more measurements than I care to remember. Everything worked out correctly and the issue was due to something else that was easily corrected.
Alright, I stripped my entire interior today so I can get started on fixing the floor pans... Underneath I found this, which obviously needs replacing, but its only on my driver side. Is this a torque box? My car is a 67'.
Here is the passenger side on my 1966 (67/68 look the same). I outlined the front portion in blue tape:

Here is the same side looking from the rear (yes, it is dusty):

This torque box is new, so compare it to your rusted out ones to see how they are installed.

If your torque box is hosed like the one in the pic, your frame rail is probably hosed as well. The frame rail makes up the side of the torque box. Remember the old saying about opening a can of worms?
