Default exhaust question for a 351

I have a 1969 Ford Torino with a mostly stock 351W. The only modification is a 570 Holley Street Avenger carb. I need new exhaust badly. What will work better for me a 2.5in. or 3in. exhaust system. I am wanting to put the hooker super comp long tube headers on the car. They are 3in at the end. Should I stay 3 inches all the way or reduce to 2.5? I dont plan to heavily mod the car any farther for a while after I get my exhaust done. Thank you.

Go with the 2.5". You don't need the 3" until you get somewhere like the 400-500hp range.

I agree. Dual 2.5" will be good for a Janer. If you start playing in the 400hp range, dual 3" sounds and works great, but it is a PIA to get tucked up. Regardless of size, think mandrel bends. It will flow much better than the crimped up **** many muffler shops provide. A 2.5" pipe should remain 2.5" in a turn, not crimped down to 2" which totally defeats the purpose! Watch 'em.

So will it matter that the headers are 3inches at the end? That is all they make for my application. I am also going to run dumps under the car in case that makes a difference. They look a lot better on Torino fastbacks in my opinion.

The 3" collector is not a problem. Just use a 3" to 2.5" reducer as you stated.
