Default Steering Wheel or Alignment?

There is a lot of movement in my steering wheel before the wheels actually engage and start turning...

Is it something simple like getting an alignment done or something more severe?

Mine was like that before I took it to my buddy's shop so we could put the floor pans in, paint the roof, etc.

The guy that works for him did something to my steering box (I think) that made it drive like a totally different car with no play in the steering. Not sure what he did because it was after we did the floors and I wasn't there when they were doing the paint but that is when he adjusted it. Best part was it must not have taken long because they didn't charge me anything to do it.

I can ask him what he did if you would like.
